The Andover Boathouse

The current Andover boathouse was completed in 1983 thanks to a generous donation from the Greenway family. The boathouse has stood the test of time and provided a home for the crew program as it expanded to include the Abbot girls and continued to feed the passion started by Coach Brown in the '50s. This year every team medaled at Interschols. The boys won the team trophy and B1 were undefeated New England Champions for only the second time in the history of the crew program. The girls G1 took silver at Interschols and reached the final of the Henley Women's Regatta. This is the first time ever that the girls have gone to Henley.
But now the boathouse is ready for improvements. We should improve the drainage to eliminate the Spring mud fest. With the expanded program we need to clear additional parking space to allow visiting teams adequate room to rig their boats. With our increased attendance by parent and alumni supporters we need more parking space. The program, with over 100 students and 12 teams, requires more space to store the launches and shells. Everyone needs better toilets. The teams deserve a dry warm place to prepare and recover from races in the wild New England springs. Others sports cancel for inclement weather, crew will race in rain or snow. A viewing deck between the ramps would be good for our supporters. First we will make a list, then see what is reasonable, after that we will estimate the costs and decide what is within our reach.
See below to view the current boathouse. PLEASE NOTE: Pictures of the packed inside of the boathouse added 7/19/07
