April 28th - ngham, Boston Latin and St. John's. - Page 1
Home race with Hingham, Boston Latin and St. John's. Hingham is a school district just south of Boston on the coast. They
started rowing about 2005 and their first coach was John Cotter a former University of Washington rower. In
recent years, their boys and girls have won state championships. Boston Latin is an exam school in the Boston
public school system. It is the oldest public school in the USA having been founded in 1635, more than a
hundred years before Andover. They row out of a boathouse on the Charles beside Northeastern. Saint John's
is an independent preparatory school for boys founded in 1894 in Worcester, They row on Lake Quinsigamond,
the home of NEIRA.
Finally summer arrived. We moved the food tables outside. The sun was shinning, the river was calm and we had a gentle tail wind.
The rowers were roaring to go and go they did. We had 6 boys' races and 4 girls' races. We won 9 of the 10 races with open water. Everyone was happy
at the end of the day. The coxswains were sacrificed to the river gods. We have tougher races ahead in the coming weeks.
