This is normally the weekend the black fly start to annoy everyone in the New England outdoors. Not this
year. Thanks the long and lingering cold winter the black flies have not yet appeared. Rowing is not a premium spectator sports. The "event" only
lasts 5 minutes and the action s usually difficult to see without high power binoculars. Not so at St. Paul's where the races are run in a narrow
canal and as a spectator you can almost reach out and touch the boat in lane 1.
St. Paul's is a long time NEIRA competitor. Their coaching staff inlcudes our own beloved Kathryn Green, aka Luc, who coached the girls at
Andover for many many years. CRI is a very large Boston based program for High School students from the Boston school system. Our alumni, Dick Cashin,
is a big suppoter of the program that greatly expanded the Charles River high school population. CRI also hosts adult rowing prgrams and is
now one of the largest, if not the largest rowing clubs in the world.
We had a great day of racing.
